I am assembling a wardrobe of face masks. I have also put a pair of brass in the laundry room, so that they hang with my hat. As a recovering fashion writer, I have never missed an opportunity to stock up on the fashion accessory of the moment.

Two good friends made me some standard solid-color models. My other masks are in a Western-shepherd vein, and another has a leopard print. And I have an N95 that I use to work in that food bank since I’m “of a certain age”.

But I’m not starting now. Some Hermes scarves that are ready for retooling are on the way from Ukraine to Etsy. I plan to temporarily shift them to surgical styles for the big night, which can increase the speed of a dry-cleaning. Will we be able to take the right steps someday?

My collection may seem over the top, especially for those who see wearing a mask in the age of coronavirus as a serious no-frills-allowed occupation. One Australian critic described the stylish facade as “attractive while trying to make something sinister.” And when George Clooney’s sister-in-law, Tala Alamuddin, started Selling “luxury” face masks, Another critic said that “it was wrong for her to make a face mask and some fashionable new fashion accessories.”

I beg to differ. By definition, style is the marriage of form and function. Since scientists say we will do Christmas shopping in masks, we are clearly involved in this for the long haul. What is the harm in scouting for tartan clothes to match my holiday skirt?

Fashion has advanced our disease prevention skills over the centuries. hundreds of years ago, The small purse is known as the “plague bag” Worn and loaded with herbs during the Qin dynasty to ward off plague-carrying creatures; In Europe they held Sweet smelling Thought to keep away a melancholy form of bad air. Today, companies make sun-protection clothing for people with melanoma or camo-printed hats for beekeepers with the intention of avoiding bee stings. They come in mixed prints and colors, but this does not make their purpose trivial.

My mask wardrobe leans towards a kind of model, maybe because I always had a weakness for designer originals. I’m moving away from designer knock-offs – yes, they are a thing – with their obvious trademark-infringement issues. My lawyer husband would prefer that I not break the trademark laws that he broke workers to uphold.

For karaoke nights at the local Elks Club in Orange County, I plan to design disposable masks by tying scarves around them. I can also break the jewels and the funky iron on the small press to add something whimsical to that so put away and somber as your disrespect.

Masks that do not protect us have to take away our personality, and should be considered a socially acceptable way to make a fashion statement. Being fashionable makes me insensitive to the severe consequences of coronovirus. Even with my face largely covered, my magnificent mask says, “It’s that I want you to see me.”
